I could not pay Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 lens. and it works wonderfully.
Typically, a wedding, you want a good standard zoom with a large opening. It depends on your budget, but for a Canon Rebel, I would recommend the Tamron 17-50 F2.8. This is a reletively fast, cheap and good aim to accommodate the movement of people in low light and the perfect zoom can reach large groups of people and grow them to get more personal. You can also use a telephoto lens soft for those moments you can not so close.
